One year ago I made my first attempt at decorating sugar cookies with royal icing. Looking back, my efforts were so primitive: ziplock baggies with corners cut off, royal icing that was the wrong consistency, and making the easiest looking cookie dough recipe I could find on Pinterest. Unfortunately, I don't have any close-up pictures of those first cookies, just one photo of our costumes for my friend's Halloween party. Admittedly, at the time I was more excited about K.C. being Aladdin with his magic carpet than I was about cookies.
Fast-forward twelve months and it is exciting to see how things have changed!
My sister-in-law had heard about and seen pictures of my cookies, yet hadn't been able to try them since she lives in Oregon. So for her and and her daughter's birthdays, she requested I try mailing some Halloween cookies their way. These cookies were so fun to decorate as it was my first time doing multiple different shapes. However, my one regret is that I failed to repeat my original candy corn design from 2013. Maybe next year though! Everything else I absolutely loved, especially the fact that they arrived in great condition right on my niece's birthday.
